Directions:
1. Lay one or more
colorful fall leaves out on the table in front of you.
2. Sketch each leaf:
Using a yellow pastel, sketch the leaf onto the pastel paper.
a. First, draw a
line that goes from the bottom of the stem to the top of
center of the leaf.
b. Second, draw
the veins that branch off the stem.
c. Third, draw the
shape of the leaf around these lines.
3. Render the leaf:
a. First, carefully
color in the whole leaf with a yellow pastel. Smudge this
neatly with the blending stump or cotton swab.
b. Second, add red,
orange, brown or green (depending on your leaf) to areas
where these colors are and neatly smudge.
c. Third, add bold
strokes of the above colors to the most striking parts of
the leaf and DO NOT SMUDGE.
d. Fourth, draw
a THIN outline of dark brown around the leaf.
4. Clean up any extra
smudges around the leaf with the kneaded eraser.
