Aircraft Art!

We had a great time at our recent Aircraft Art workshop, here at Masterpiece. The students had a wonderful time expressing themselves and learning some sculpting basics as they created some very inventive airplanes!

See the whole gallery below.

You can try this project at home with ages 7-12.

Note: This is a project that is meant to build creative problem solving skills. I have purposefully left out images of each step because we want each plane to be unique. The students will grow as they are challenged to build the plane using the materials given them.

Instructions:

1. Create an "armature" (skeleton) for your sculpture by taping together craft sticks into the shape of an airplane. Click HERE for some great images of planes to use as a reference. You can copy one you like or make one that is a combination of several planes.

2. Wad up strips of aluminum foil and tape to the plane sections to add body.

3. Cover the plane with flat pieces of clay, completely covering all foil and craft sticks.
4. Use small pieces of clay, in various colors, to decorate the planes. You may also use small, cut pieces of foil to make shiny sections on the plane. You can also decorate the plane using markers. Add decals, numbers, flags, emblems, or anything that pleases you.
