Supplies:

Construction Paper in various colors
Pencil
String or twine
Scissors
White glue
Aluminum Foil
Black poster (tempera) paint
Liquid Dish Soap
Paintbrush
Paper Towels
" Holiday Symbols" print out (optional)

Directions:

1. Draw a simple holiday design on a 3" x 4" piece of construction paper. (You may wish to print off the "Holiday Symbols" sheet to use instead of drawing.)

2. Cut string into the lengths of all of the lines in your design.

3. Apply a thin line of glue onto the lines and glue down the string pieces.

4. Spread glue all over the paper, in between the string pieces and all around them.

5. Press a piece of foil (4" x 6") over the string. Carefully press between inside the shapes. Fold the sides around to the back of the paper.

6. Mix some black poster paint with a drop of dish soap. (This will keep it from beading.)

7. Apply black paint all over the surface of the foil.

8. Using a folded paper towel, carefully blot the paint, but do not rub it all off. Leave some on to create an antique look. Allow to dry.

9. Create a card from construction paper and glue the foil art onto it. Use several colors of paper to create an interesting background for your artwork.

Here is another example using a holly design.
