Supplies:
White Paper
Pencil with eraser
Black Marker
Coloring medium, such as colored pencils, markers or crayons
Giraffe photo reference, printed. (Right click on photo below
and print.)
Directions:
1. Draw a curved "line of action", like this
one. Draw lightly, since this line will eventually be erased.
2. Draw a large circle for the head and a small circle
for the snout. Use your whole arm when you draw, not your
wrist.
3. Look carefully at the photo reference and draw the outline
shape of the head and neck, going around the circles. For
now, don't draw the ears or horns.
4. Erase the lines on the inside.
5. Add the horns and the ear.
6. Add the eye, nose and mouth.
7. Add the shapes of the spots, the mane and the dark area
of the face
8. Now you can color your giraffe in a variety of ways
using markers, colored pencils, crayons, or a combination
of these mediums.
This one uses realistic colors.
This version uses a "cool" analogous color scheme,
with an "warm" opposing background.
This one uses a "triad" color scheme!
[What does that mean? It uses three, equally-spaced
colors on the color wheel.]
