Description
Drawing
and Rendering I: Graphite
We will learn drawing fundamentals using graphite pencils. Concepts introduced include: shape, line, shadow, value, texture, and detail. Each lesson will include a warm-up sketch, a lesson on a specific concept or technique, a drawing exercise, and work on a running project.
Learn the foundations of color theory including the color wheel, monochromatic, analogous, complementary, and triad color schemes. We will also learn how to shade drawn objects using color. Colored pencils needed.
Students will explore the careers of interior decorating, textile, and fashion design by designing fabric patterns and using them to decorate a room and create a line of clothing. Students will complete a portfolio of fabric designs, a room board, and drawings of their fashion creations.
Learn
hard pastel techniques as we create four frame-worthy compositions that
take us around the world from Scotland, to Canada, to Italy, and to India.
This course is designed to provide critique and instruction
to intermediate artists for your next 2-dimensional art project. You choose
the subject matter and the medium, and art teacher, Karine Bauch, will mentor
you at four points in the process:
Composition of the page
Preliminary sketch
Blocking in of basic colors and values
Final rendering
You will be able to upload your photo references and discuss your choices
for creating a composition. Then Karine will review your preliminary
sketch and mark up a copy with suggestions and comments before beginning
the rendering
stage. Individualized instruction will be given during the final rendering
to guide you through the process to a polished final work.
Possible mediums include:

Read how one student described Exploring the World with Pastels:
"I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate
you offering this course this August. I had a great time reinforcing my love
of pastels (I have always loved the medium, just never used them; was too
afraid to put it to paper, so to speak). Your positive feedback and
helpful hints were great! While doing the work was challenging and
sometimes upsetting (I struggle with perfectionism), now that class is over
I am missing it already!! Thank you again for the wonderful intro to pastels,
and I hope that you have a great year." Deb Warren
